5 - Minute Presentation

I will be teaching them what most girls see when they look in magazines. What the media puts out there, and why girls may have a low self esteem. I want to show them a bit of what most girls go through.

Objective: Students will learn what magazines look like in a different perspective then just looking at the pictures in a magazine.

Procedures:
Introduction of what my topic is about. 1:00 minute
       - Hi my name is Atiana and my senior topic is self esteem. How many of you know how many teenagers deal with self esteem issues?

Seventeen Magazine Example: 1min 30 sec
      - What is the main thing that stands out on this cover? And why do you think they do that?             
             - They do this so that girls who don't think they are pretty buy there magazines so that they can become pretty. They think well if i do everything this magazine tells me to do then I will soon become pretty.

H&M Catalog: 1min 30 sec
        - Flip thought the magazine and ask them what ethnicity's they see. There are only caucasians in the magazine.
              - Explain how some girls may feel that there is only on kinda of pretty, because if there is only nationality they see, how do they know what is pretty if they don't see it.

Close: 30 sec
        - Explain what I want to get out of it.

Check for Understanding:
         - Make sure I ask questions. Make sure every one sees the pictures in the magazines, and explain what I mean when I say there is one ethnicity in the magazine and make them realize why so many girls may feel so insure.
