2 hour Presentation Rough Draft

Sponge Activity: (Have them sit junior senior)
I’m going to have them draw a picture on what they think girls should look like, what society wants them to look like and how they want to look as partners.
Introduction:EQ +Define ItFoundation: (Career or History)Talk about how in 1960 the model Twiggy started the skinny look, or talk about Photoshop?Body: Answer 1: (15)
Being Aware of what media puts out there. So my first answer is being aware of what media puts out there. Media has put this idea out there that skinny is the “it” thing, which isn’t true a all. So I will be showing things about photo shop such as pictures and videos, I may also pass magazines around.
Activity:
I’m not sure yet, I was thinking about doing like a group peer chat, where we talk about what in media bugs us. Or how much pressured we feel as teenagers by media.

Answer 2: (15)
Healthy living consists of eating right, but also not beating your self up for having ice cream every once in awhile. But also exercising in a healthy way. Not over doing it, and knowing your body’s limits when doing strenuous exercises.
Activity:
I was thinking of having food and showing them what’s good to eat and what’s not. Or maybe doing partner exercises with the partner they feel comfortable with.
Conclusion:In conclusion my three best sources where, Liz Frost and her book Young Women and the Body
What is the best way to help a girl with her self esteem. What I mean by it is a lot of girls especially in their teenage years do not feel confident about them selves with all the pressure around them. They have to do good in school, while having friends, and having to be the hottest girl in school. Along with all the media that is shoved in her face everyday. So what I want out of my essential question is what is the best or the most effective way I could help a teenage girl feel good about the way she feels about herself.
Why the topicOver the summer when the senior team asked us to think about what it is we would like to do as our topic, I knew what I was going to do from day one. Sickle cell anemia, I mean I have it and I know I could do my service learning at my hospital and this will be a walk in the park. But after I thought about there are two reasons I don’t want to do it. Not only do I not want to be sick of my own disease after six months of working on it, but I wanted to do something that would make an impact on more then one persons life. So I figured that if I choice self esteem, something everyone struggles with would have a way higher impact that sickle cell.
Plan for the day
So as far as today goes I will be going over things that lower a girls self esteem and then explaining simple ways she would be able to raise it. We will be doing two activities that correspond with my answers.
